Designspeaks

Culture and experience.

Designspeaks exists to encourage people to talk about design. Not to pat backs or inflate egos, but rather to invite discussion, or perhaps, to encourage dissent. And if a few people become inspired long the way, so much the better.

Design is culture and experience. It’s about confronting issues, realizing opportunities, establishing context, and celebrating a sense of place. We aim to explore Design (with a capital D) within the multidisciplinary: architecture, brand, communications, experience, film, fashion, graphic, and industrial. Design is here. Now, in four cities.

Past speakers include Seattle’s Modern Dog and Invisible Creature. Professor and filmmaker Andrea Marks, dean of Northwest design, the redoubtable Byron Ferris, Communications Art’s editor Patrick Coyne, creative director Jelly Helm, designer and entrepreneur Aaron Draplin. Educator and illustrator Frank Chimero, and design style-makers The Official Manufacturing Company.
